E. coli Outbreak Linked to Bagged Spinach

posted on September 15, 2006

Since Thursday, at least one death and dozens of people sickened by E. coli have been linked to consumption of bagged spinach in ten states. The Food and Drug Administration advised consumers to throw out any pre-packaged spinach, warning that washing the leaves won't kill the bacteria because it is too tightly attached.

The original outbreak was report in eight states. On Friday, Kentucky became the tenth state reporting an E. coli outbreak.
