High Temperatures Pummel California

posted on July 28, 2006

Two weeks of sky-rocketing temperatures have wrecked havoc on California's citizens and livestock. Heat-related human deaths stand at more than 130 throughout the state while numbers for livestock are harder to estimate.

Livestock in California are dying in such large quantities officials are allowing farmers to ignore state laws controlling the method of animal burial.

California farmers are burying deceased animals in landfills and on their own property. Upcoming forecasts show no signs of relief with West Coast temperatures hovering over 100 degrees through the next week.
