No Highway Memorials to Hogs

posted on February 17, 2006

Hogs and humans don't deserve the same treatment when it comes to memorials, according to Virginia officials. The animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals proposed roadside memorials for pigs that were killed on their way to slaughter. The state says only human victims of highway crashes are allowed memorials. PETA proposed signs that read, "99 pigs died here because of driver negligence." The group says they signs could make drivers slow down.
