Maps for Migrants Crossing the Mexican/U.S. Border

posted on January 27, 2006

Mexican officials are distributing 70-thousand copies of a "different" sort of road map. The maps are for migrants heading to the U.S and will show highways, rescue beacons and water tanks in the Arizona desert.

Mexico's National Human Rights Commission says the program is intended to cut deaths among illegal migrants. The commission estimates about 500 Mexicans died last year, trying to cross the border.
