WTO to Rule on Cotton Subsidies

posted on April 23, 2004

The World Trade Organization is expected on April 26 to issue an interim ruling on U.S. cotton subsidies.

Brazil is charging that the subsidies exceed Uruguay Round limits and reduce exports from other countries by depressing prices and increasing U.S. export market share.

The ruling will be given to the parties involved and is not intended for public distribution, although instances of total secrecy in such matters are rare.
