Counting Calories At The Checkout

posted on November 7, 2003

Do you really wanna know how many calories are in those fries?

A new bill in Congress would require restaurants with at least 20 outlets to include nutritional labels on their menus.

For example, visitors to a McDonald's or Wendy's would see calories listed on menu boards above the cashiers. At sit-down restaurants like Denny's or Applebee's, the menus would include fat and sodium content along with calories.

According to a survey by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, two-thirds of Americans support a requirement for restaurants to list calories on their menus.
