Bean There ... Grown That.
Kraft Foods has announced it will sell coffee certified by the Rainforest Alliance in what could be a boost for small coffee growers in Latin America.
The alliance seeks sustainable coffee production by growing the bean without damage to the environment and by providing farmers with better returns. Kraft's agreement with the alliance will support farmers in Mexico, Colombia, Brazil and Central America.
Kraft, whose coffee brands include Maxwell House and Jacobs, joins Procter and Gamble, Sara Lee and Starbucks as major food marketers selling so-called "fair-trade" coffee.
