Government scientists are bringing hope to peanut-sensitive consumers by developing a form of hypoallergenic peanut.
Researchers have found a peanut variety lacking one of the peanut allergens. If their search turns up another allergen-free variety, scientists say they can crossbreed them to produce a safer nut.
Researchers are screening more than 300 peanut varieties before developing antibodies against the three main peanut allergens. It's estimated some 1.5-million Americans suffer allergic reactions to peanuts.
