Data collected by the Centers for Disease Control show American obesity continues to rise. Obesity among American adults increased by more than one percent during 2001. This continues a trend that has seen obesity among U-S adults jump 74 percent in one decade.
Those with a body mass index over 40 are over 700 percent more likely to develop diabetes, and roughly 600 percent more likely to have high blood pressure.
To combat this growing problem, the CDC recommends 30 minutes of daily exercise to maintain health and 60 minutes to lose weight.
