The National Christmas Tree Association says 17% of Christmas tree sales last year were purchased at chain stores like Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Lowes and Target. That's up from 14% from the year 2000.
At the same time, sales at roadside tree lots fell from 27% to 21% last year. Sales from nonprofit organizations remained a steady 15%.
Over the past ten years, annual sales of real Christmas trees have hovered between 32 (M) million and 37 (M) million.
