Bees may be one of the new weapons in sniffing out explosives. Following simple Pavlovian logic, containers of the sweet liquid are left near ingredients used in bomb making such as gunpowder and dynamite. The bees learn to seek out the food by finding the explosive materials.
The original intention of the bomb sniffing buzzers was for landmine removal in fields. But other applications may exist at border crossings and other outdoor facilities.
The bees may be more effective in some situations at finding incendiary devices because of their numbers. But other methods would still need to be deployed at night while the bees are sleeping.
