Catfish for Kids

This isn't as fishy as it sounds.

Over the past year, Southern catfish farmers have watched sales drop as less expensive imports from Vietnam have taken over a portion of the market. To help the industry survive, USDA officials will be buying six-million dollars worth of breaded catfish products.

The Department is expecting the purchase, about one percent of the industry's total annual sales, to help stabilize the rocky market and guarantee the thousands of jobs in the processing industry.

Most of the catfish nuggets and strips are slated for school lunch programs.
