Naturally Colored Sweaters

posted on November 30, 2001

They're naturally colored sweaters … on the hoof.

A Missouri farmer has a flock of four hundred sheep that he's bred for their naturally colorful wool.

The pasture contains sheep in hues of blue, red, and various shades of brown, black and shiny gray. The unusual sheep also maintain an unusual diet of native or specially planted grasses and weeds, which the farmer boasts keeps the wool clean before sheering.

The National Colored Wool Growers Association boasts fewer than 650 members … compared to 66,000 sheep producers nationwide.
