Osama's Honey

posted on October 12, 2001

A honey of a deal.

American officials say they have evidence that Osama bin Laden is using shops that sell honey in the Middle East and Pakistan to generate income and secretly move weapons and drugs throughout his terrorist network.

A senior U.S. administration official says honey ranks as one of the most important business operations for bin Laden's terrorist group Al Qaueda … not so much for the income it generates but as a way to secretly ship contraband.

Honey is a staple of Middle Eastern life. For example, Saudi Arabian families consume on average more than two pounds of honey a month.
