Animal McWelfare

posted on October 5, 2001

Animal McWelfare moves forward.

McDonald's Corporation says by year end, it will buy eggs from producers who support its corporate animal welfare guidelines ... which include providing chickens with at least 72 square inches of cage space and four inches of feeder per bird.

Welfare standards for pork production are also in the offing, including setting standards for sow housing.

As Market To Market reported in the past, McDonalds "anticipatory policies" are intended to balance economic considerations with social and consumer perceptions.
