Check it out … yourself.

A grocery store chain is testing out a new checkout lane … where the customer is also the "cashier."

In an effort to address consumer complaints of long lines at the grocery checkout, a Kroger store has installed a scanning machine where customers can scan their own products, pay and bag groceries without a cashier.

A single cashier could supervise up to four scanners … which cost about $95,000 each.
