New research from the University of California-Davis reveals almonds can have a significant effect on the prevention of colon cancer at least in lab rats.
Generally high fat foods like nuts are associated with higher cancer risk. But the research found the almond diets fed to the rats reduced their rate of colon cancer. Scientists think the "almond effect" is attributable to the mix of nutrients, including antioxidants and phytochemicals, contained in the nuts. The combination apparently works together to protect colon cells from cancer.
