The U.S. agriculture department will release a report next month that delivers the lowdown on the health and nutrition effects of popular diets.
The January 11th release of the "white paper" report is intended to subject the multi-billion dollar U.S. diet industry to ... quote ... "the highest level of scientific scrutiny."
The report is part of a six-year effort by USDA to increase attention on diet and nutrition matters. The agency claims it's not the government's role to tell people what to eat, but rather to deliver sound information on the multitude of popular diets on the market.
