An Upscale Hotel From McDonald's

posted on November 25, 2000

OK, that's one salade de frisee et lardons with a side of chickpea fries nicoise. You want fries with that?

The Swiss arm of McDonald's corporation, known for its french fries and Big Macs, has unveiled plans to open two four-star hotels next spring.

The "Golden Arch" hotels will cater to business travelers during the week and to families during the weekend. Amenities will include high-speed internet access, a child care center, and, of course, a McDonald's restaurant.

Officials say they're opening the hotels – one in Zurich and one near the French border -- to build the hamburger brand in Switzerland and to attract new customers.
