AND WEIGHING IN AT 66.4 POUNDS, THE UNDISPUTED CHAMPION...BEEF!...

CONSUMPTION OF MEAT HAS INCREASED IN THE PAST TWENTY-FIVE YEARS. THE U-S-D-A LISTS LAST YEAR'S AVERAGE INTAKE AT MORE THAN 185 POUNDS PER PERSON.

BEEF CONTINUES TO BE THE MOST POPULAR MEAT WITH AVERAGE INDIVIDUAL CONSUMPTION AT ROUGHLY 66 POUNDS. CHICKEN AND PORK ARE CLOSE COMPETITORS FOR THE NUMBER TWO SPOT AT MORE THAN 50 POUNDS EACH.

WHILE MEAT EATING MAY BE CONTINUING ON AN UPWARD TREND, PREFERENCES HAVE SHIFTED. SINCE 1976, CHICKEN AND TURKEY CONSUMPTION HAS DOUBLED, PORK INTAKE IS UP BY ABOUT 25 PERCENT, WHILE BEEF CONSUMPTION HAS FALLEN BY NEARLY 25 PERCENT.
