Doing time for kudzu

posted on February 4, 2000

HMMM, WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THAT KUDZU.

BATTLES TO EFFICIENTLY AND CHEAPLY ERADICATE KUDZU HAVE ENDED IN DEFEAT. NOW A GEORGIA LEGISLATOR WANTS TO FINE LANDOWNERS WHO LET KUDZU RUN-FREE UP TO $5000 OR HAVE THEM SIT IN JAIL FOR A YEAR.

INTRODUCED IN THE LATTER HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY, KUDZU WAS SUPPOSED TO FIGHT AGAINST SOIL EROSION. THE WILEY WEED TOOK ROOT AND BEGAN OVER-RUNNING EVERY NOOK, CRANNY AND OPEN FIELD IT COULD REACH.

NO ONE HAS YET TO SUGGEST A U.S. COMPANY PROCESS IT INTO A HANGOVER MEDICATION AS THE CHINESE HAVE DONE FOR MORE 1-THOUSAND
