President Trump hosted pro-ethanol forces this week who were attempting to break an impasse on biofuels. Neither side gave ground.

The talks occurred just before the President announced an import tariff on steel and aluminum. --

The news pushed the Dow Jones Industrial Average lower as investors sent their money other places in the event of a trade war.

Earlier in the week, the Commerce Department reported orders for durable goods dropped 3.7 percent as demand for big-ticket items like airplanes declined.

Orders for durable goods fell just 0.3 percent when the big silver birds were taken out of the equation. --
