Temperatures plunge over Midwest

Midwinter blues reached a low point as a polar vortex grabbed ahold of the nation’s midsection and refused to let go.

Temperatures of minus 20 were common in the upper Midwest

Blowing snow created white outs and eight lives were lost due to the harsh conditions as wind chills reached 50 degrees below zero.

Temperatures are predicted to swing nearly 100 degrees in a matter of days. The warm conditions, and the risk of rain, will create a threat of flooding.
