The McLains
The 2000 season of OLD-TIME COUNTRY MUSIC began with an inspiring performance by one of the country's most cherished family bands. The McLains, known for bluegrass music, offer up a rich variety of old-time country and bluegrass originals. Joining The McLains for parts of both half-hour programs is harmonica virtuoso Mike Stevens, who offers exciting diatonic harmonica solos and unusual bluegrass accompaniment.

Volo Bogtrotters
The Volo Bogtrotters, a popular Chicago string band, are known for lively dance instrumentals along with unique and humorous vocals that have been passed down from old time musicians and old 78 records. In each show, an Iowa couple joins the band for some lively, freestyle dancing.

David Holt
One of the country's finest acoustic musicians and storytellers joins OLD-TIME COUNTRY MUSIC for a half hour of entertainment and folk humor. David Holt shares anecdotes about the music he has collected from some of his favorite friends. His performance is an interesting mixture of songs played on an even more interesting array of musical instruments. He sings, dances, plays the harmonica, steel guitar, the mouth bow, the paper bag, the bottle, the washboard, the bones, the spoons and the banjo. He solos and accompanies… himself.

Special Consensus
Celebrating their 25th anniversary, Special Consensus, a Chicago-based bluegrass band, performs a mixture of traditional and contemporary bluegrass. Featured in two half-hour programs are fine acoustic instrumentals, a capella gospel songs, original and classic bluegrass, and old-time swing tunes.

Leroy Troy
Leroy Troy comes to OLD-TIME COUNTRY MUSIC from his home in Tennessee, where he has gained a special notoriety for his similarity to an early "Opry" star, Uncle Dave Macon. His vocals, banjo-picking, down-home humor and special instrumental acrobatics have made him well-known in festivals and concerts in the Southeast. Songs are old-time and performed with a distinctive, dynamic energy.
