After Reading: General After Reading |
|
Description |
I learned this as a "One Minute Paper." I use it in my Advanced Chemistry and Physics classes to check to see if students a.) read a pre-assigned lesson, and b.) understood it. After reading (or when they first come to class having read a homework assignment) I give them one minute to write. Some examples are:
- write a brief summary
- describe the main topics
- define some vocabulary
- describe their areas of misunderstanding

Reflection |
This gives a quick assessment of the students' understanding. It also points out that the reading assignments are integral to class! It is a great to help the instructor adjust to students' needs because it becomes very clear where they need explanation. I will continue to use it and modify the writing prompts.
