Description |
Prior to reading a new unit, students were given a group of words from the unit. They were instructed to sort them into categories. Afterwards, we discussed their grouping. After they read the unit and had a better understanding of the words, we created a word wall.

I was surprised how much they already knew before reading the chapter. This strategy also pointed out where they didn't know enough! It helped them read the chapter more effectivly and helped me focus my teaching.
