Internet: Reading Web Sites
Description
Before we read Grendel by John Gardner, I had my students do an internet reading activity. Instead of reading boring annotated copies of Beowulf, I found a website that, though not without errors, gave a brief synopsis of each book and pictures of mead halls and a lot of other great information. I created a worksheet to lead them and they were required to access the website and fill out the worksheet. We discussed it in class after they handed in the worksheets.

This worked well with my class. There were several problems with the questions I wrote where some kids didn't understand what I was asking or questions that just asked them to read. They skipped those. No surprise. So, I went back right after they handed it in, while it was fresh in my mind and reworked the worksheet for next year. I think it is very good now and will certainly use it again next year.
