Ready To Learn

Helping families, educators, and child care providers prepare Iowa's children, ages birth to eight years, for educational success through the effective and appropriate use of quality resources, including those offered by the

Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and Iowa Public Television (IPTV).

what is ready to learn?

Ready To Learn is public television's contribution to our nation's most critical education goal: Ensuring that all children will enter school ready to learn.

Ready To Learn in Iowa encourages adults to extend a child's learning by linking concepts from PBS KIDS programs to reading, math, science, and other learning activities.

Components of Iowa's Ready To Learn service include:

  • PBS KIDS Programming features quality, non-violent, non-commercial, educational children's television programming broadcast free of charge to every household in Iowa. Arthur, Between the Lions, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Dragon Tales, Reading Rainbow, and Sesame Street are some of the most popular award-winning, and engaging children's programs available today.
  • Book Clubs distribute free books and training to support family literacy efforts for low-income families and early care and education providers in an effort to make books an important part of young children's lives.
  • Workshops assist early care and education providers to teach children basic educational and social skills that will help them enter school ready to learn.

The Learning Triangle is used to teach children skills and concepts by using PBS KIDS programs, books, and activities.
