Globe Trekker

Philippines (#225)

Shilpa visits Luzon, one of the Philippines' 7,000 islands, where she discovers what life was like under the reign of Ferdinand Marcos. She journeys through the beautiful Filipino countryside to Sagada, home of the famous "hanging coffins" and the amazing rice terraces, often considered the eighth wonder of the world. Shilpa then treks south to Manila, where she meets a karaoke-singing taxi driver and enjoys one of the popular ballroom dancing nightclubs. Her next stop is the island of Negros, the sugarland of the Philippines, where she travels by vintage steam engine. Shilpa's final visit is to the jungle of El Nido, home of the last-discovered Filipino tribe, the Tau't Batu. [56 minutes] Closed Captioning
