Globe Trekker

Trekking In Austria and Switzerland (#229)

Zay's trek takes him on a journey from the countryside of Salzburg to the vast mountain peaks of the Alps and to the fascinating little town of Hallstatt, where divers have found relics of the old Nazi regime. In Neustift, he climbs the 8,000-foot glacial peaks and investigates the inside of an ice crevice, rewarded by stunning alpine views. Crossing the Swiss border, Zay makes a 700-foot bungee jump in the valley of Locarno, one of the locations for the James Bond film "Goldeneye." He then joins a sledding team in Flims and, dressed in tinsel, plummets down the snowy course. Zay makes his way to the Emmental region; experiences the horn-making and yodeling traditions of Switzerland; and meets the lifesaving St. Bernard dogs in Bourg St. Pierre, a charming town on the Italian border.
