Globe Trekker

Trekking In Vietnam and Laos (#233)

Zay starts his trip through the rice fields of Hanoi and then travels by boat to the stunning Ba Be Lake National Park, participating in a corn-throwing contest and catching a goat blindfolded in his bid to find a wife. In the volcano surrounding Dalat, he goes on the war trail of the 1970s and ends up in the ancient culture of the elephant tamer. Heading into Laos, Zay passes through the caves of Xam Neua, glimpses the French architecture and ancient temples of Luang Praboug, and hops on a cargo boat to Luang Namtha. He seeks out the Acke tribe, who build him the ceremonial "love shack" for a young male and treat him to a celebratory feast of rat and dog, considered to be tribal delicacies.
