Globe Trekker

Northern Thailand and Laos (#302)

Ian begins his trip in Bangkok, where he tries his skills at the popular sport of Thai boxing and explores the many fashion shops. He next ventures to the Damnoen Saduak floating market to sample local cuisine and haggle with the fruit vendors. From Bangkok, Ian heads to Surin, stopping briefly at the ancient Khmer ruins where he takes part in a tug-of-war with an elephant. Ian visits Chiang Mai, trekking toward the Burmese border and participating in a festival honoring monkeys. He journeys to Luang Prabang, the ancient capital of Laos, discovering the art of paper-making and cooling off in the Taat Sae Falls. Ian explores Phonsavan, an area of Central Laos devastated during the Vietnam War. His last stop is Vientiane, the modern Laotian capital, where he celebrates at the Full Moon Festival.
