In The Life

American As Apple Pie (#805)

IN THE LIFE, the only nationally broadcast series to present the art, culture, issues and news of the gay and lesbian community, continues to provide public television viewers with a clear, non-sensational look at what it means to be gay or lesbian in America today. The six one-hour newmagazine programs, taped on location across the country and hosted by Katherine Linton, serve a broad audience of gay and straight viewers. Focusing on heightening understanding of gay and lesbian life through intelligent and entertaining segments, the series has been praised by the Chicago Tribune as a "professional newsmagazine, which only brings its subject matter into sharper relief." The National Catholic Reporter says IN THE LIFE, "deals with substantive issues in a crisp, courageous way," and the Tampa Tribune says, "professional production values and clear reporting." "Evenhanded and illuminating . . . as important by its presence as by what it presents," says the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Covering a wide range of topics and individuals, IN THE LIFE has featured reports on hay teen suicide, gay foster parents, the AIDS Memorial Quilt, gay affirming churches, as well the latest films and plays with gay and lesbian subjects to come to America's movie screens and regional theaters.
