IOWA PRESS reviews the progress of the 78th Iowa General Assembly, and assesses the impact of Governor Tom Vilsack's first two major speeches as Governor - The Inauguration Speech and his first ever Budget Address.

Host and moderator Dean Borg welcomes the panel of IOWA PRESS
Statehouse reporters to the IOWA PRESS table. The reporters will assess
the agenda forwarded by the Republican-controlled Iowa General Assembly and the Democratic Governor.

Joining Borg are David Yepsen of the Des Moines Register, Mike
Glover of the Associated Press, Kay Henderson of Radio Iowa and Kathie
Obradovich of the Lee Newspapers.

The panel will review the progress of the first session of the 78th Iowa
General Assembly, which was gavelled open on Monday, January 11, by Speaker Ron Corbett (R-Cedar Rapids). The G.O.P. controls both chambers of the Iowa Legislature, holding a majority advantage of 29-21 in the Iowa Senate and 54-46 in the Iowa House of Representatives.

Additionally, the panel will review the priorities outlined by Governor Tom
Vilsack (D-Mount Pleasant). Gov. Vilsack delivered his Inauguration Speech on Friday, January 15, and delivered his first Budget Address on Thursday, January 28. [28 minutes]
