The Global Agricultural Crisis of the 21st Century (#151)
Agricultural ecologist Sir Gordon Conway delivered the 2008 Norman Borlaug Lecture from Iowa State University. He was one of the first to define the concept of sustainable agriculture.Sir Gordon pioneered integrated pest management in Borneo (Malaysia) in the 1960s, and developed agroecosystems analysis in Thailand. He has also been professor of Environmental Technology at Imperial College in London (1970-86), worked for the Ford Foundation in New Delhi (1988-92), and was elected as president of The Rockefeller Foundation in 1998. Among his publications are: Unwelcome Harvest: Agriculture and Pollution, The Doubly Green Revolution: Food for all in the 21st Century, and Islamophobia: A Challenge for Us All.

Program Description: Intelligent Talk Television showcases recent lectures given by guest speakers at colleges and universities across Iowa. The collaborative effort between IPTV and participating colleges and universities provides mentoring to students, giving them the opportunity to shoot and edit the events for broadcast on IPTV’ s digital channel and streaming on the ITTV Web site.

Lance Foster, a member of the Ioway Nation, is a traditional storyteller, artist, teacher, and scholar and is involved in the cultural preservation and management of the Ioway culture and language. His presentation touched upon the history and culture of the Ioway Indians--the first tribe that inhabited the state of Iowa and parts of surrounding states. Today, there are Ioway Reservations in Kansas and Oklahoma.

Dreams to Reality: Astronaut Clayton Anderson (#136)
Astronaut and Iowa State University alum Clayton Anderson chronicles his 152 days in space as part of the 15th and 16th expeditions to the International Space Station (ISS). Mr. Anderson launched to the ISS in 2007 aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis. During his stint, he performed three spacewalks for a total of 18 hours of extravehicular activity. He holds a master of science degree in aerospace engineering from ISU (1983).
