Youth Rooster Coring and Ladies Chicken Calling Contests Peter Hamlin is at Pioneer Hall for the Youth Rooster Crowing Contest and the Ladies Chicken Calling Contests. It’s a perennial favorite. Side Road – Farmall Promenade Paul Berge is travelling a Side Road that takes him off the Fairgrounds to Nemaha and 10 years into the past. At the Elwell Family Food Center, it’s cookies, cookies, and more cookies at the Midwest Living Cooking contest. FFA Swine One of the things that makes the Iowa State Fair so great is our young people. For exhibitors at the FFA Swine Show, this is the culmination of months of preparation. Fair Prep – Goats Raising goats for meat is a growing industry nationally and in Iowa. We learn about a popular breed from the Thorps of rural New Sharon, Iowa. They raise and show Boer goats. Mr. Legs The Mr. Legs contest always draws a good crowd. And Peter Hamlin is ringside for the event this year. FFA Parade of Champions Every year thousands of young Iowans are involved with FFA projects through their local chapters. Though it isn't possible to see the judging of every project it is possible to see those who received top honors in 2008. Watch all the pageantry as the FFA winners celebrate their accomplishments with a parade in the Livestock Pavilion. Extreme Canines Stunt Dog Show At Walnut Square, the Extreme Canines stunt dog show was a big hit in it first appearance at the Fair.
