The discussion of galaxies continues by focusing on a special group of galaxies with very energetic cores called active galaxies. Different types of active galaxies are introduced, from Seyfert galaxies and blazars to quasars.

Program Description: Astronomy: Observations and Theories explores a broad range of topics, concepts, and principles, from the motions of the visible sky to dark matter, from our own planet to the stars and galaxies. The series examines evidence for the big bang and continuing evolution of the universe and tracks the formation, life, and death of stars. Programs also depict how astronomers have come to know what they know about the universe and how they are still seeking answers to some of the most fundamental questions about the universe.
