The series will be based on “Better Together: Creating Community through Civility,” a series of lectures organized by Character Counts In Iowa, the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, Drake University and the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa. Kicking off the series will be an address by former Iowa Congressman and current National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman Jim Leach, who earlier this year launched what he calls a "civility tour" of the U.S., aimed at sparking a nationwide conversation and discussion about the importance of civility in public debate.
