Outnumbered

Christmas Special 2009 (#120)

It's only Boxing Day but Karen has already made a list of New Year resolutions - including at number four: "Mummy will stop nagging me." Arguably, of course, what the Outnumbered kids actually need is a bit more nagging: the first 15 minutes of the Christmas special comprise an onslaught of unsuitable toys, lost pets ("OK Karen, I promise that if a porpoise is ever stuck under the floor I will rescue it"), and discussions as to whether robbers and/or aliens have stolen Ben's pants. By the time Sue heads out to collect her dad from the home in time for lunch, you do wonder whether she's likely to ever come back. [39 minutes] Closed Captioning

Series Description: Outnumbered follows the battle of wills between two parents and their three young children, who are seemingly locked into a never-ending contest to see just whose patience will run out first. Testing theories such as not buying broccoli to save money on the weekly shop, and whether or not Jesus should have used his superpowers to combat Herod, the kids ponder the imponderables in the part-improvised comedy that shows how living with kids can provide at turns the funniest and the most cringe worthy experiences available to us all.

Many will recognize how the parents (Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner) are just attempting to raise their kids with the minimum of emotional damage for all concerned. In the series, the family negotiates hangovers, chess, sex education, colonoscopies, therapy, re-enactments of World War II, and the sun screening properties of kangaroo saliva.
