Globalization at the Crossroads with Hernando de Soto
Globalization at the Crossroads with Hernando de Soto
Globalization has produced unprecedented prosperity in the past 60 years, yet the vast majority of the world's population - 80 percent -remains excluded from the system by Byzantine legal procedures and political repression. No matter how hard they work, they never can get ahead and reap the rewards of their enterprise. Shot on location across four continents, GLOBALIZATION AT THE CROSSROADS documents the disparities of wealth feeding that desperation, and suggests a solution in the work of renowned Peruvian economist, author and property rights activist Hernando de Soto and his Institute for Liberty and Democracy. The film travels to the savannahs of Africa, a picturesque Swiss castle town, booming Shanghai and Tokyo, a leafy Midwestern American suburb, the transitioning cities of Albania and a cattle market in the Peruvian Andes to illustrate the findings of deSoto's 20 years of research.
