David Yepsen (#101)
David Yepsen has seen every one of Iowa's precinct caucus contests first hand from vantage points occupied by few others - as a political reporter, editor, and columnist for The Des Moines Register for 34 years; a thirty-year host, panelist, and guest on political programs on Iowa Public Television and other television and radio networks; and today from a greater distance as the director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. He offers his perspective on the process as the inaugural speaker in CAUCUS IOWA: A Speakers' Series, sponsored by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs in association with the Greater Des Moines Partnership. Mark Halperin and John Heilemann (#102)
Mark Halperin, senior political analyst for Time magazine, and John Heilemann, political reporter for New York magazine, speak about the Iowa caucuses on December 9, 2011, as part of the Caucus Iowa Speaker Series. The event was staged at the State Historical Building in Des Moines. The two analysts are known for their frequent appearances on PBS's "Charlie Rose" show, and as co-authors of the New York Times best-selling book, Game Change, which details the human drama behind the scenes of the 2008 presidential campaign, and which is slated to be released as an HBO movie in 2012.
