  • Tavis Smiley: At the Judge Luther T. Glanton Student Achievement Banquet

    Tavis Smiley, a broadcaster, author, publisher, advocate, and philanthropist, delivered the keynote address at the 15th Annual Judge Luther T. Glanton Student Achievement Banquet on May 12, 2012. The speech was organized by Omicron Foundation of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, and held at the downtown Des Moines Marriott. The Student Achievement Banquet recognizes African American males in first through 12th grades. It is named after Luther T. Glanton, Jr. who was the first elected and appointed African American Judge in the State of Iowa, and a member of the Fraternity. Mr. Smiley hosts the Tavis Smiley on PBS and Public Radio International (PRI). In 2009, Smiley was named one of TIME’s “ 100 Most Influential People in the World.” His topic at this keynote is an initiative he calls “Too Important to Fail.” Here is Tavis Smiley. [36 minutes]
