Changing Lands, Changing Hands

Changing Lands, Changing Hands

The fastest growing group of farmers in the U.S. is farmers over 65 years old. That demographic shift puts the agriculture industry on the precipice of a transition. At some point in the near future, thousands of farms will be changing hands and how that occurs could reshape the industry that drives the economy in Middle America. In “ Changing Lands, Changing Hands” we examine what will be a large amount of land – and wealth -- changing hands in the next few decades. Older farmers have to often make some difficult decisions regarding their land – do they stay on it and keep farming it, pass it on to someone in the family, or sell it to a new or existing farmer? What are the implications of those decisions and their effect on the farmers, consumers, local communities, the agriculture industry and our nation? [28 minutes] Closed Captioning
