The Best of Old-Time Country Music
Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder (Pt. 1) (#9802)
Ricky Skaggs began his music career as a child performing with first generation bluegrass legends Bill Monroe, Flatt and Sgruggs, and Ralph Stanley. In the 80's he combined his bluegrass roots and country charm and became one of the top country recording stars. He had eleven number-one hits on the Billboard country charts, four Grammys, and numerous other honors including joining the Grand Ole Opry in 1982 and winning CMA Horizon and Male Vocalist of the Year awards in 1983. In 1996 and 1997, Skaggs performed more than 80 bluegrass dates. His latest bluegrass album titled Bluegrass Rules rose to # 68 on Billboard's country music charts and #1 on the Gavin Americana radio charts, an unprecedented feat for a purely bluegrass recording. On the Old Time Country Music program, the first of two parts, Ricky Skaggs and his six piece acoustic bluegrass band Kentucky Thunder perform the following songs: Songs: "Amanda Jewell", "Big Spike Hammer", "Lonesome Night", "I'M Riding that Midnight Train", "Flannery's Dream" " Get Down On Your Knees and Pray", and " Get Up John".
