The 2011 season of Iowa's Simple Pleasures begins March 24, with a special preview program airing during Festival starting March 10.
See some of Iowa's out of the way places for fun and food with Dan Kaercher, one of the state's best-known travelers of the Midwest. In the second season of Iowa Public Television's Iowa's Simple Pleasures program, Kaercher explores both off-road and paved bike trails in the northeast part of the state, floats down a southwest Iowa river in a livestock tank, and rejuvenates at a spa in southeast Iowa. Known for enjoying both down-home cafes and gourmet restaurants, Kaercher seeks out local restaurant favorites between Iowa's "coast-to-coast" borders: from the Missouri river where a Sioux City restaurant provides adjacent marina parking for boats to a Mississippi river town where an Italian family has provided sustenance to locals and travelers alike since 1939.
Dan Kaercher is the founding editor-in-chief of Midwest Living magazine (retired), and hosted several Iowa Public Television series including Best of the Midwest, Taste of the Midwest, Parklands of the Midwest, and Best of Iowa.
