Rising healthcare costs and universal access to health insurance are issues sure to be debated through this year’s presidential campaign. But healthcare costs can be addressed now, and in fact are being addressed in several quarters. Many individuals encouraged by employers and civic efforts are adopting practices that help them lead healthier lives. We’ll take up that matter with guests: Jim Hallihan, Exec. Dir. of the Iowa Sports Foundation, and Tim Lane, Fitness Consultant for the Iowa Department of Public Health. They'll talk about several fitness and wellness projects, including "Safe Routes to School", "Walking School Bus" and "The Iowa Games", plus "Lighten Up Iowa" which begins it's annual team weight-loss event on January 16th. Also on this episode, comments by fitness show host Mark Fenton, and an Iowa Essay by photographer Norma Reed. Plus, Iowa Public Radio Reporter Jeneane Beck give us her take on the news that lingers after all the candidates have flown to New Hampshire.
