Iowa's Roads and Bridges

Duration: 04:38
Play in External Player

Iowa has one of the most extensive systems of roads and highways of any state in the union. Flying over the state it would seem every square mile is etched with a road, usually a hard-surfaced one. Every stream seems to have a span across it and while the state’s population is stable, the miles traveled per capita have steadily risen in the last 25 years.

Three dollar gas may be curbing some of that behavior, but the roads and bridges are still there and in need of maintenance. We’ll take up the cost, as well as some priorities that will need to be developed on The Iowa Journal.
