Broadcast Date: Feb. 18, 2008
The state, and many Iowa cities, invests millions of dollars to attract bioscience businesses in the name of economic development.
The Iowa Journal profiles some of the businesses, including Tran Ova Genetics in Sioux Center and Embria Health Sciences in Ankeny. Also included is the story of how Ankeny's Department of Economic Development has worked to attract biotech businesses and the number of jobs those companies brought to town.
Host Jeneane Beck also talks with Associated Press reporter David Pitt about the difficulty of obtaining student loans and the proposed expansion of HAWK-I insurance program being debated in the Iowa legislature.
