Daytrotter.com: New Technology in Iowa's Music Industry

Duration: 05:00

Upheaval in the music industry, due to increasing internet downloads and declining CD sales, may result in shifting power from the moguls to the many, but no one has a clear view of the way to play the future. Is new technology creating fertile musical ground for Iowa musicians or making it easier for people to rip-off revenue?

Adding their new take on an old industry, Daytrotter.com is a music Web site that is providing bands with an on-line venue and fans a place to hook-up to music in the form of free downloads. Catching bands between tour stops, Daytrotter records exclusive performances in their Quad Cities based studio.

Passionately devoted to supporting independent music, Daytrotter believes the free downloads they offer help promote bands rather then cut into potential CD-selling revenue. More than two million Daytrotter songs have been downloaded since the site first launched in February of 2006.
