When you start with the basic mantelpiece that has a mixture of greenery in it and just a few silver balls and white snowflakes, you can add your own personal touch. Let me give you an idea what I've done here with this basic canvas, if you will. I've decided to do something a little unconventional in the way of color. I'm using some chartreuse satin ribbon, and I'm just tucking that in with these floral picks on either side, like this, just to finish it up to give you an idea of how easy this is. And then I've taken some silver snowflakes, and I just gently place those in, evenly distributing them among the greenery, like this. And then cinnamon sticks add a touch of brown, and these are so easy just to tuck in. So you want them going in lots of different directions. And some of them need to go in the direction of the greenery. You've got it flowing from one end to the other. So that just carries out that line. And then, if you want to give it a little pizazz -- and that's what I wanted to do here -- you can add fresh tangerines. And so I'm just tucking those in among the silver balls. And that orange really gives it quite a punch. When you use one of these as a centerpiece, the sky's the limit with what you can do to set the table. I like using a dark-chocolate charger, some simple, white plates, and a festive gift that goes right in the center, wrapped in many of the elements that you find in the centerpiece.
